Hello

A Bit About Me

I care about building software that lasts and about teams that work well together.

About

My path started in research and scientific computing and led me to years of hands-on engineering and leadership in online marketplaces. Working on the same product for years taught me to spot complexity early, own my mistakes and keep things simple. I love sinking my teeth into hard technical problems and turning messy requirements into software that works. I stay close to the code, learn from what goes wrong and help my team build things that actually help people. I'm open to new roles or collaborations that use technology to tackle real-world problems. I'm not interested in another fintech gig or any job where the sole aim is to maximise shareholder value.

Experience

Technical Engineering Manager | Tech Lead | Software Engineer – eBay / Adevinta / Marktplaats

Nov 2016 – Present · 9 years · Amsterdam Area, Netherlands

I’ve been part of the same product and team through several company changes, from eBay Classifieds to Adevinta and now Marktplaats. We build and run a first-party advertising platform that serves our marketplaces.

I started as a backend engineer writing Go services and grew into a tech lead and engineering manager, often wearing multiple hats at once. I’ve worked on designing and scaling our systems, improving developer practices, and leading a cross‑functional team focused on seller tools and advertising features. My focus has been on building and maintaining systems that actually support our users and make a difference in their experience.

eScience Engineer – Netherlands eScience Center

Jun 2015 – Oct 2016 · 1 year 5 months · Amsterdam Area, Netherlands

I worked on software projects in particle physics and environmental modeling, collaborating with researchers from academia and public research institutes. My main focus was developing tools for optimized data handling and efficient computing in particle physics, as well as building modeling software for the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL). Several of the projects I contributed to led to published research in both scientific computing and environmental modeling.

NIKHEF & Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam)

Oct 2010 – Feb 2016

While completing my PhD in computer science, I worked at the National Institute for Subatomic Physics (NIKHEF) developing data management and grid computing solutions for the LHCb experiment at CERN. My research focused on automating verification of distributed software designs and bridging the gap between software engineering and fundamental CS research. This period sharpened my interest in robust distributed systems.

Engineering Doctorate (EngD) – Eindhoven University of Technology

Oct 2008 – Oct 2010

Completed a two-year EngD in Software Technology, combining advanced coursework with industry projects. Worked with companies such as ViNotion, FEI and NIKHEF on real-time and data-heavy systems. This programme reinforced my ability to translate vague requirements into working software.

Java Software Developer – MAK-System, Republic of North Macedonia

Feb 2007 – Sep 2008

Developed and maintained eRiskLine using Java Servlets and JSP pages, a software solution for collecting incident and risk information in healthcare settings. This role was my first professional exposure to building and deploying software in production.
